Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is considering extending its Phase II pink line to Kizhakkambalam to connect Infopark's upcoming Phase III campus. The discussions have started as the campus is expected to employ around 200,000 people, with an additional 400,000 associated with the project, making metro connectivity critical. The extension would also enhance accessibility to Infopark's Phase II campus. Progress depends on the ongoing land pooling process in Kizhakkambalam, with further talks planned once land formalities are completed.
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is considering an extension of its Phase II pink line to Kizhakkambalam, where Infopark plans to develop its Phase III campus. Initial discussions between KMRL and Infopark officials have already taken place to explore the feasibility of the extension. The new campus is projected to employ around 200,000 people directly, with another 400,000 connected indirectly, emphasizing the need for robust metro connectivity.
The current Phase II Pink Line, under construction, is expected to be completed by 2026 and presently terminates near Infopark's Phase I campus. Extending the line would bridge the distance to Phase III, improving access for employees, residents, and visitors. This extension would also benefit Infopark's Phase II campus, enhancing overall connectivity within the IT park.
Infopark CEO Sushanth Kurunthil highlighted the importance of metro connectivity for the success of the Phase III project, noting that the integrated township would rank among the state's largest infrastructure initiatives. He explained that KMRL had indicated willingness to consider the extension during preliminary discussions, with more detailed planning to follow the completion of the land pooling process in Kizhakkambalam panchayat, Kunnathunadu taluk.
The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) has identified vacant plots, including uncultivated paddy fields near Wonderla Amusement Park, as potential sites for the Phase III campus. These areas are approximately 2 kilometers from the existing Phase II campus. Officials expect the metro extension project to move in tandem with the advancement of the land pooling process, ensuring that transportation infrastructure keeps pace with the IT park's growth.
