The Andhra Pradesh government has entered a strategic collaboration with the School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada (SPA Vijayawada), to advance urban planning and innovation across the state. Under a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), SPA Vijayawada will function as an AMRUT Centre for Urban Planning and Capacity Building (A-CUPCB), aiming to promote efficiency and excellence in municipal administration, urban development, and planning implementation.

The MoU was signed by Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar and SPA Director Dr. Srikonda Ramesh, with Municipal Administration Minister Ponguru Narayana in attendance.

A six-member working group comprising officials from the MAUD department and SPA Vijayawada will oversee the partnership's implementation. The initiative will include training and capacity-building programs for municipal and town planning officers, planners, and other stakeholders, covering municipal and metropolitan planning, land administration, urban governance, and the integration of technology into planning.

The collaboration will also explore interdisciplinary research to support Andhra Pradesh's vision of becoming a leading state in urban development, planning, architecture, and design. Focus areas include data analytics, GIS, remote sensing, AI, machine learning, IoT, environmental planning, and public policy. SPA Vijayawada will provide technical advisory, policy guidance, and consultancy support for land, water resources, environmental sustainability, climate considerations, traffic, and transportation planning.

Through this partnership, the government and SPA Vijayawada aim to create a model for urban governance that combines academic expertise with practical solutions. The use of the latest technology and professional insights is expected to strengthen municipal administration and promote sustainable, resilient, and efficiently planned cities across Andhra Pradesh.
