Synopsis

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will develop new commercial and residential plots in the Basantkunj scheme using vacant and unplanned land near existing residential areas and green spaces. Vice-Chairman Prathmesh Kumar inspected plots in Sector-I (near Mango Park) and found illegal construction, leading to suspension of some officials. Identified sectors for new plots include J, K, I, O, and Sector A (survey to finish in two weeks). The scheme also includes beautification of parks, road repairs, and penalties for contractors where work is slow.

The Lucknow Development Authority has decided to set up new commercial and residential plots under the Basantkunj scheme, by using vacant land and spaces not yet planned, especially near green belts and residential zones. This decision follows an inspection led by Vice-Chairman Prathmesh Kumar in Sector-I near Mango Park, where illegal construction was found. Two supervisors and an assistant engineer were suspended for negligence.

Further inspections revealed delays at the flood pumping station for Rashtra Prerna Sthal. The private contractor there was fined INR 5 lakh for slow progress. LDA has also asked for planning of vacant land in Sectors J, K, I, and O, and a survey of Sector A is to be completed within two weeks.

In addition, the authority has ordered upkeep and repair work at several parks including Mango Park, Ayurveda Park, and the jogging space on Hardoi Road. The tasks include finishing horticulture works, repairing roads, and improving landscaping. Unauthorized constructions will be penalised as part of enforcement efforts.

The new plots are to be located close to residential areas to allow easier access and cleaner layouts. Commercial plots will be in places where residents and customers are nearby, while residential plots will be designed keeping green belts in mind. Planning will focus on proper roads, utility services, and clear zoning to avoid future conflicts.

These actions are seen as part of LDA's effort to make better use of unused land, improve the city's appearance, and meet rising demand for both business and housing plot options in Lucknow.
