Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) confirmed earlier this week that it had been awarded two major contracts by Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) under Phase I of the Patna Metro Rail Project. The combined value of the contracts is INR 1,418.3 crore and INR 1,147.51 crore, respectively.
The company explained that the works involve the design and construction of 10.67 km of underground twin tunnels using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and the building of six metro stations. These developments form a crucial part of the Danapur-Khemnichak Corridor.
As per the details, Package PC-05 includes the design and execution of twin tunnels with shield TBM technology, a cut-and-cover tunnel, an underground ramp at Mithapur, and three metro stations located at Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan and Patna Station.
Package PC-06 covers the development of an underground ramp at Rukanpura and the construction of three stations at Rukanpura, Raja Bazar and Patna Zoo. Both packages also encompass architectural finishing, water supply systems, and sanitary and drainage works for the associated stations.
HCC highlighted that it has been consistently contributing to India's metro infrastructure growth. The company has earlier executed substantial portions of metro projects in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai (Line I) and Kolkata.
The Patna Metro assignments further expand the company's track record, adding to its earlier contributions in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. The upcoming underground works and stations in Patna are expected to strengthen urban connectivity while underlining HCC's role in executing complex tunnelling and structural engineering projects.
