Danish logistics operator Scan Global Logistics (SGL) has formally entered the Indian market, setting up operations in Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai, with Mumbai serving as its local headquarters. The company stated that it intends to support both multinational corporations working in India and Indian businesses looking to expand overseas. The leadership team, drawn from leading logistics firms, will drive SGL's offerings in project and humanitarian logistics, alongside its global suite of supply chain services.
Scan Global Logistics (SGL) announced earlier this week that it has commenced operations in India, marking a strategic expansion into one of the fastest-growing global trade hubs. The company confirmed that offices have been established in Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai, with the Mumbai branch serving as its India headquarters.
According to the company, its operations will cater to multinational corporations active in India as well as Indian companies expanding internationally. SGL highlighted that the India team will bring together seasoned professionals with backgrounds in Maersk, CEVA Logistics, and Rhenus Logistics, ensuring strong industry expertise from the outset.
The company said its service portfolio in India would include end-to-end supply chain offerings across air, ocean, rail, road, and warehousing, along with specialised expertise in project logistics and humanitarian logistics. The move was described as timely, given India's strengthening role in global trade, rising foreign investment, and growing demand for efficient and reliable logistics solutions.
Allan Melgaard, Global CEO at SGL, remarked that establishing a presence in India had long been a priority for the company. He explained that SGL had deliberately entered the market with a team that aligned with its purpose, customer-first approach, and entrepreneurial spirit. He added that the company saw this as the right moment to begin operations, starting with three key cities and with plans to expand rapidly across the country.
The announcement follows SGL's series of global acquisitions over the past year, including Blu Brasil in Brazil, Foppiani Shipping & Logistics in Italy, and ITN Logistics in Canada. Vikash Agarwal, CEO at Scan Global Logistics India, commented that the Indian market required speed, flexibility, and trusted relationships, adding that SGL was building an agile organisation capable of swift decision-making and delivering tailored solutions to meet evolving customer needs.
With India's increasing significance in global trade, the decision positions SGL to provide advanced logistics solutions that address the needs of a dynamic economy. By starting in three metropolitan hubs and planning further expansion, the company is signalling its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
