Synopsis

Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Eknath Shinde, has directed a thorough investigation and legal proceedings against developers responsible for constructing 65 unauthorized buildings in Kalyan-Dombivli. These structures, deemed illegal by the High Court, have left residents vulnerable to eviction after being misled by builders. Shinde has instructed the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Commissioner to file a complaint with the Economic Crime Investigation Branch. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of public awareness by suggesting the installation of information boards and regular publication of official building lists on the municipal website to assist citizens in obtaining accurate information.

Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Eknath Shinde, has mandated a rigorous investigation and legal proceedings against those responsible for constructing 65 unauthorized buildings in Kalyan-Dombivli. These buildings, deemed illegal by the High Court, face potential eviction for residents who were deceived by builders who sold them without legal approval. Shinde has instructed the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Commissioner to file a complaint with the Economic Crime Investigation Branch in this regard.

A detailed discussion was held on how to provide relief to the citizens in the unauthorized construction case while adhering to the court decision, the release from the Deputy CM's office noted. Public awareness boards should be put up at various places in the city through the Municipal Corporation. A list of official buildings should be published regularly on the website of the municipality. This will be of great help to the citizens in getting correct information, the release quoted Shinde as saying.

The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has been actively addressing unauthorized constructions in the region. Earlier this year, the KDMC demolished an under-construction four-storey building that was built on a plot reserved for a garden. This action followed a Bombay High Court order mandating the demolition of 62 illegal buildings in the twin suburbs, setting a deadline of February 19, 2025. While the civic body's drive has left 6,500 families residing in these buildings in distress, it also highlights large-scale irregularities where local builders furnished fake approvals to regulatory bodies.
