Indore's metro expansion achieved a significant step with a successful trial run of the second phase, covering a 5-kilometer stretch between Super Corridor No. 3 and MR-10 stations. This phase is part of the 17.5-kilometer priority corridor connecting Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Square. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) aims to commence commercial operations by the end of October, pending necessary safety approvals. The broader 31.32-kilometer metro project, estimated at INR 7,500.80 crore, is designed to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the city.
Indore's metro rail expansion has reached an important step with the successful completion of a trial run for the second phase. The trial covered a 5-kilometer stretch between Super Corridor No. 3 and MR-10 stations, marking a crucial stage in the development of the 17.5-kilometer priority corridor that connects Gandhi Nagar to Radisson Square. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) conducted the trial at speeds ranging from 5 to 10 kilometers per hour to ensure safety and system integrity.
Commercial operations are expected to commence by the end of October, contingent upon receiving the necessary approvals from the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS). These approvals are essential to ensure the safety and reliability of the metro services before they are made available to the public.
The metro project is being developed in three phases. The first phase, a 6-kilometer stretch between Gandhi Nagar and Super Corridor No. 3, became operational earlier this year. The second phase, currently undergoing trials, extends the metro line towards Radisson Square, covering an additional 11 kilometers. The third phase, which will connect key city landmarks, is in the planning stages, with construction expected to begin soon.
The Indore metro project is part of a broader initiative to improve urban transportation and reduce traffic congestion in the city. With a population exceeding 3.5 million, Indore faces significant challenges related to traffic and pollution. The metro system aims to provide a reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional modes of transport.
As the metro network expands, it is expected to serve a growing number of passengers, particularly in densely populated areas such as Vijay Nagar and Sukhlia. The extension of services to Radisson Square is anticipated to further boost ridership, offering improved connectivity for residents and commuters alike.
