Synopsis

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) carried out a demolition drive in Vashi against an unauthorised building despite prior notices being served. The action, initiated under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, was supervised by Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner Dr Kailas Gaikwad. The partial demolition was supported by civic engineers, encroachment officials, police, and workers, with heavy machinery and labour deployed. Authorities indicated that such anti-encroachment operations would be intensified in the coming period.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) undertook a demolition drive in the Vashi division against an unauthorised construction that had continued despite official notices. The encroachment department confirmed that the action was carried out under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Dr Kailas Gaikwad.

The case concerned a building in Juhugaon, Vashi, owned by Ranjana Madhukar Bhoir, who had commenced construction without obtaining permission from NMMC. The civic body had earlier issued a notice under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966, requiring voluntary removal of the unauthorised structure. However, the construction continued in violation of the order.

The Vashi division team subsequently organised a demolition drive, during which the unauthorised portion of the structure was partially removed. The operation was attended by Assistant Commissioner Sukhdev Yedve, Junior Engineer Mangesh Meher, along with officials and staff from the encroachment department. Police personnel from the encroachment squad and local stations were also present to ensure security.

For the drive, the civic body deployed one JCB machine, 15 labourers, eight dumpers, two breakers, and a gas cutter to carry out the work effectively.

Officials stated that the corporation would continue to strengthen its anti-encroachment operations across the city in the coming period.

Despite notices and legal warnings, the persistence of illegal development led to enforcement action. With heavy manpower, machinery, and police assistance, the civic body ensured compliance with urban planning laws. Authorities confirmed that further demolition campaigns will be intensified to deter encroachments and preserve planned development across Navi Mumbai.
