Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has rolled out a new mechanism to automatically update property tax records in the name of new owners following property registration. This reform removes the need for manual name change applications and visits to municipal offices. Mutation charges are now collected at the sub-registrar's office itself, triggering real-time data integration into GVMC's system. Officials have called on citizens to stay informed about the new process, which is being seen as a major administrative ease measure in Andhra Pradesh's ongoing push for urban digitisation and governance transparency.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has implemented a digital mechanism to update property tax records automatically following property registration. The new system, introduced this past week, eliminates the need for property buyers to manually submit applications or physically visit municipal offices for name transfers.
According to municipal authorities, once a sale is registered at the sub-registrar's office, the name of the new owner is automatically reflected in the GVMC's property tax records. Officials confirmed that mutation charges are collected during the registration process itself, making the transition seamless and eliminating any post-registration delays.
The facility is applicable to properties within GVMC limits 'land, flats, and buildings'that are already included in the municipal tax system. Officials stated that the system updates the records in near real time as soon as the mutation fee is paid, thus ensuring prompt accuracy in property ownership documentation.
GVMC personnel highlighted that this initiative integrates the property registration process with tax records, simplifying procedures and reducing citizen effort. They also mentioned that buyers would no longer need to navigate queues or paperwork, as the system will manage all updates internally and automatically.
To ensure smooth adoption, instructions have been issued to both sub-registrar and municipal staff to make citizens aware of this reform. Officials emphasised that public awareness is vital to ensure that the benefits of the system reach all eligible property buyers.
This development is part of a broader agenda by the state government to enhance transparency and efficiency in urban administration. There are expectations that other municipal corporations across Andhra Pradesh may soon adopt similar mechanisms.
Real estate professionals and residents have responded positively to the announcement, indicating that the move addresses long-standing concerns around delays and inconsistencies in tax record updates. They welcomed the process for offering clarity and convenience to buyers and municipal staff alike.
