The National Green Tribunal recently pushed back on Noida and Greater Noida authorities for failing to produce a current, detailed account of unauthorised building activity in the region. It demanded, within three weeks, a new affidavit identifying specific builders, projects and sites citing developments like Pristine Greens, Krishna Elite Homes, Trinity High Street and others built on agricultural or non-designated land without environmental clearance. Earlier submissions were dismissed as outdated and vague. Violations span dozens of villages and include misuse of services to legitimize illegal development. A comprehensive committee may be appointed to evaluate the situation at the tribunal's direction.
The National Green Tribunal has rebuked Noida and Greater Noida authorities for presenting an inadequate response on widespread unauthorised building activity. The tribunal directed them to file a detailed affidavit within three weeks, naming developers, specific properties and locations tied to illegal projects such as Pristine Greens, Krishna Elite Homes and Trinity High Street, which have reportedly been built on agricultural or non-designated land without required environmental clearance.
NGT pointed out that previously submitted photographic evidence was outdated-some dating back to late 2022and failed to accurately reflect the current scale of construction. It emphasised that despite orders issued earlier, new illegal developments continue in numerous villages.
Representatives of petitioners, including Rajendra Tyagi and counsel Akash Vashishtha, alleged that authorities have been complicit with developers by granting electricity connections and infrastructure effectively legalising illegal colonies. They highlighted that developments have continued across 56 villages in Greater Noida and 18 in Noida, flouting the Air and Water Acts.
Earlier, the tribunal had ordered authorities to stop all unauthorised constructions and to verify groundwater usage claims made by builders, especially concerning borewell extraction without permission. That order followed petitions filed since early 2024 pointing to large-scale encroachment of fertile farmland and failure to obtain environmental clearances, "Consent to Establish" and "Consent to Operate".
In parallel, the tribunal granted the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration three more weeks to submit a precise report on the state of wetlands and ponds in Noida, including encroachment details based on fasli records and removal measures taken.
