The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) conducted a review of infrastructure projects in Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana during a recent meeting chaired by Secretary Amardeep Bhatia. Senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and project proponents participated in the discussions. The review covered projects worth several thousand crores, including issues related to Reliance Jio's 5G and 4G network expansion. The meeting particularly addressed concerns over pending forest and wildlife clearances in Telangana.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) held a review meeting earlier this week to examine issues concerning five infrastructure projects spread across Karnataka, Kerala, and Telangana. The meeting was chaired by DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Bhatia and attended by senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and project proponents.
According to the commerce and industry ministry, Karnataka had five major projects under review with a combined cost of INR 3,658 crore. In Kerala, two projects worth INR 5,002 crore were discussed, while in Telangana, six issues related to three projects valued at INR 1,934 crore were examined.
In addition to state-level projects, the 5G and 4G network expansion initiative of Reliance Jio was also reviewed. Discussions with the Government of Telangana centred on resolving pending forest and wildlife clearance issues. Officials indicated that the telecom project seeks to extend 5G mobile connectivity to uncovered and remote regions of the country while simultaneously enhancing the existing 4G infrastructure.
By addressing clearance hurdles and coordination gaps, the ministry underscored the importance of timely resolution to maintain momentum in project execution. The scrutiny of Reliance Jio's telecom expansion further reflected the government's focus on strengthening digital connectivity alongside physical infrastructure development, ensuring wider access to both mobility and essential services in underserved regions.
