Synopsis

The Navsari Municipal Corporation has launched a large-scale enforcement drive against unauthorised construction, following inspections at nearly 200 under-construction sites. Of these, 40 were found lacking the required permissions. Owners have been served notices and instructed to submit sanctioned building plans, layout drawings, survey records and 7/12 extracts within five days. Non-compliance may result in demolition or legal action. This is the first major regulatory step since Navsari's elevation to municipal corporation status and comes as the city prepares for its ward elections.

The Navsari Municipal Corporation has initiated a sweeping enforcement campaign to address illegal construction within its jurisdiction. The town planning department recently inspected around 200 under-construction sites and discovered that 40 were operating without mandatory approvals.

Notices have been served on the property owners, requiring them to furnish essential documentation such as sanctioned building plans, layout designs, development permissions, city survey details and 7/12 extracts within five days. Officials have stated that failure to comply will invite legal action or the demolition of the unauthorised structures.

This marks the first substantial regulatory move since Navsari was granted the status of a municipal corporation. The city has been reorganised into 13 wards, with elections expected to be held shortly. Ward-10 accounted for the highest number of violations, with seven sites, while six each were recorded in Wards 1 and 2. Additional irregularities were found in Eru village with one site, and in Dharagiri and Tighra villages, where two sites each were identified.

The municipal commissioner confirmed that the identified sites were unable to produce essential documentation and added that the enforcement drive would continue in order to ensure compliance and maintain orderly development across the city.

By demanding timely submission of approvals and warning of strict measures for non-compliance, the civic body is setting a precedent for regulated development. As Navsari transitions into a municipal corporation and prepares for elections, continued vigilance will play a pivotal role in safeguarding planned urban expansion and protecting the broader interests of residents and stakeholders.
