The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) recently sealed 36 shops on the first floor of Siddhi Vinayak Market 2 on Jail Road due to non-payment of property tax and garbage collection fees. Officials clarified that the action followed repeated notices and ample time given to shopkeepers to settle their dues. Shopkeepers can have the seals removed by submitting registration documents, opening property tax accounts, and paying the pending amounts. The IMC emphasized that timely tax compliance is essential to maintain municipal services and infrastructure.
The Indore Municipal Corporation has recently sealed 36 shops on the first floor of Siddhi Vinayak Market 2 on Jail Road due to unpaid property tax and garbage collection charges. The move came after the shopkeepers failed to settle their dues despite repeated reminders from the municipal authorities.
A team from IMC's Zone 3 visited the market, affixed official notices on each shop, and sealed the premises. Anil Nikam, the Assistant Revenue Officer for Zone 3, noted that none of these 36 shopkeepers had paid their property tax or garbage collection fees. The tax amount varies according to the size and type of each shop.
Officials stated that the shops would be unsealed once the shopkeepers submit copies of their registration documents, open a property tax account, and pay the full amount owed. IMC assured that the paperwork would be completed the same day once all documents are provided.
IMC Commissioner Shivam Verma highlighted that timely payment of property and other municipal taxes is crucial for maintaining essential city services, including sanitation, infrastructure maintenance, and civic development. He also mentioned that sufficient notice and opportunities had been given to the shopkeepers before taking action.
This enforcement action is part of IMC's broader plan to ensure compliance with municipal tax rules. Earlier, similar actions have been taken against commercial and residential property owners who defaulted on payments, reflecting the corporation's ongoing focus on improving revenue collection and service quality in Indore.
