Synopsis

Maharashtra is set to advance its economic development with the 'Third Mumbai' project in Raigad, planned to include education, healthcare, research, and innovation facilities. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized seamless connectivity to Mumbai and encouraged private sector participation through fast-tracked approvals and public-private partnerships. The announcement coincided with the inauguration of Goldman Sachs' expanded office in Worli, highlighting Maharashtra's position in the financial sector. With a focus on AI, quantum computing, and advanced research, Third Mumbai aims to foster growth in both the MMR region and the broader state economy.

Maharashtra is developing a new urban hub, 'Third Mumbai,' in Raigad district to drive growth across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the city will include international university campuses, medical colleges, research facilities, and innovation centers, making it a key contributor to both Mumbai's and Maharashtra's economic development. Research in areas such as quantum computing and AI-based systems will be an important feature of the project.

Connectivity between Mumbai and Third Mumbai is planned to be seamless. Infrastructure projects such as the Coastal Road, Atal Setu, and the ongoing Worli-Sewri Link Road will support smooth travel between the two areas. The CM encouraged private investors to participate in the project, assuring them that all necessary approvals would be fast-tracked and any challenges resolved quickly. He emphasized that public-private partnerships are essential for effective development and that the state continues to improve its ease-of-doing-business framework to support investors.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of Goldman Sachs' expanded office in Worli. Fadnavis described the new facility as a sign of Maharashtra's skilled workforce, strong markets, and leadership in the financial sector. Kevin Sneader, President of Goldman Sachs, highlighted the significance of opportunities in the Indian market, while CEO Sanjay Chatterjee said the office design focuses on collaboration, innovation, and employee well-being.

Goldman Sachs has been operating in India since the 1980s and established full ownership in Mumbai in 2006. The company provides investment banking, equity sales and trading, fixed income securities, asset management, and research services. The expansion of the Mumbai office reflects the firm's growing role in the region and reinforces Maharashtra's position as an important financial hub.
