Synopsis

Reliance Infrastructure has received a Letter of Award from NHPC for a 390 MW solar project with a 780 MWhr BESS, adding substantial clean energy capacity to its portfolio. The project/s tariff of INR 3.13/kWh places it among India's most competitively priced renewable initiatives. This development expands Reliance Group's integrated Solar + BESS capacity to over 3 GWp and 3.5 GWhr, strengthening its leadership in the sector. The tender was highly competitive, reflecting growing industry interest in dispatchable renewable energy. Reliance Infrastructure continues to leverage SPVs to deliver large-scale, high-impact projects.

Reliance Infrastructure has won a Letter of Award from NHPC for a 390 MW solar power project paired with a 780 MWhr Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project, once operational, will contribute 700 MWp of solar DC capacity and 780 MWhr of BESS capacity to Reliance Group's energy portfolio, reinforcing its leadership in India's clean energy sector.

The award came through a competitive tariff of INR 3.13 per kWh, placing the project among the most cost-effective renewable energy initiatives in the country. Reliance Power, another entity under the Reliance Group, already manages nearly 2.5 GWp of solar and 2.5 GWhr of BESS capacity. With this addition, the group's total clean energy pipeline now exceeds 3 GWp of solar and 3.5 GWhr of BESS, establishing it as India's largest player in integrated Solar + BESS projects.

This project forms a part of NHPC's larger tender for 1,200 MW of solar and 600 MW / 2,400 MWh of BESS capacity connected to the interstate transmission system (ISTS). The tender drew strong interest, with 15 companies participating and 14 qualifying for the e-reverse auction, ultimately becoming oversubscribed by nearly four times. The response highlights growing industry focus on dispatchable renewable energy solutions.

Reliance Infrastructure, known as one of India's largest infrastructure firms, develops projects through Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) in sectors such as power, roads, metro rail, and defence. Its SPV-based projects include the Mumbai Metro on a Build, Own, Operate, Transfer (BOOT) model and multiple road projects on a Build, Operate, Transfer (BOT) basis. The company's strategic expansion into renewable energy marks a continuation of its diversified growth trajectory across high-impact infrastructure sectors.
