Synopsis

IKEA India has opened its first store in Delhi, a 15,000 sq ft city-format outlet at Pacific Mall in West Delhi. The launch, which features 2,000 home furnishing products and a Swedish café, marks a significant step in the company's expansion across North India. This new store is part of IKEA's "One Click, 30 Minutes Away" strategy, which aims to combine physical accessibility with online convenience. The company plans to open more stores in the Delhi-NCR region, with two larger-format stores already under construction in Gurgaon and Noida.

Global furniture and home furnishing giant IKEA has officially opened its first store in Delhi, marking a significant step in the company's expansion across the country. The new 15,000 square feet outlet is located in Pacific Mall in Tagore Garden, West Delhi, and is designed to bring IKEA's signature home solutions closer to residents of the capital. This new city-format store, which follows the brand's online launch in Delhi-NCR in March 2025, is part of a broader strategy to expand its omnichannel presence in India.

The Delhi store, which is IKEA's fourth city presence in India, showcases more than 2,000 home furnishing products, with nearly 800 available for immediate purchase. Larger furniture items can be ordered online and delivered to customers' homes. According to Patrik Antoni, CEO of IKEA India, the company is now blending large-format stores, city outlets, and e-commerce to be more accessible to a broader range of Indian consumers. The store also features room setups inspired by Delhi homes, digital space planning tools, and a Swedish café.

IKEA's retail journey in India began in 2018 with its store in Hyderabad, followed by outlets in Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru. The company is now pursuing a "One Click, 30 Minutes Away" model, which combines physical accessibility with online convenience. As part of this plan, the company is also building two larger-format stores in Gurgaon and Noida. These stores are expected to be much bigger than the Delhi outlet, with the Gurgaon store planned to be 4 lakh square feet with a 1,000-seater restaurant. This expansion is supported by IKEA's long-term goal of increasing local sourcing from the current 30% to 50% by 2030, which will help reduce prices for local consumers and build a strong domestic supply chain.
