The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to undertake repairs and rehabilitation of the Parel TT flyover after the current monsoon season. The project, which involves demolishing the existing structure and building a new one, is aimed at improving traffic flow on this busy route. The flyover, originally constructed over five decades ago, is currently in a dilapidated state. With repairs set to begin post-monsoon, the project highlights BMC's efforts to address the challenges of maintaining aging infrastructure and enhancing urban mobility in Mumbai.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is planning to begin repairs and rehabilitation of the Parel TT flyover after the current monsoon season. The flyover, which was built over five decades ago, is in a dilapidated state and is a key link for traffic moving towards the Eastern Express Highway.
According to a BMC official, the flyover is a major route for commuters, and its old structure has deteriorated over time, making it unsafe for heavy traffic. The planned project involves demolishing the existing structure and constructing a new one in its place. This is aimed at improving traffic flow and ensuring the safety of daily commuters on this busy route.
The official also noted that the repairs will help to streamline traffic at the Parel TT junction, which is a key link for traffic moving between south and central Mumbai. The flyover is also a major link for traffic moving towards Thane and other eastern suburbs, making it a critical part of the city's road network.
The project is part of a broader push by the BMC to upgrade and repair aging infrastructure across Mumbai. The civic body is focusing on projects that can improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion in the city. The repairs on the Parel TT flyover are expected to be completed in a phased manner to minimize disruption to traffic.
BMC has also been working on other infrastructure projects, including the construction of a mini-pumping station in Mankhurd to address waterlogging on the Eastern Express Highway, as well as a ropeway link from the Aarey Metro Station to Film City to ease congestion. These projects are all part of a wider effort to improve the city's transport infrastructure and prepare it for future growth.
