Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) confirmed the conduct of a numbering draw for shops-cum-offices (SCOs) and bay shops located in Aerocity, part of the region's large-scale urban expansion plan. The process, carried out under the land-pooling scheme, applies only to those already in possession of a letter of intent (LOI).


The authority uploaded the list of eligible LOI holders on its official website and set a specific deadline for claimants to verify their inclusion. Gmada instructed that any objections regarding missing names should be submitted before the stipulated cut-off, warning that no representations would be entertained beyond this date.

Officials clarified that the draw does not equate to immediate allotment. Instead, numbering of the sites will serve as a preparatory step, with actual possession being granted only after development works reach completion. The engineering wing of Gmada has indicated that these works, which include essential infrastructure and site readiness, should be finalised in the coming months.

The published beneficiary list showed 40 applicants for 60 sq yd bay shops, 131 applicants for 100 sq yd SCOs, and 29 applicants for 121 sq yd SCOs. These sites form part of Aerocity's commercial belt, located near Chandigarh International Airport. The area covers roughly 1,000 acres and has already attracted significant interest due to its proximity to major transport links and its planned mix of commercial and residential zones.

Despite the commercial momentum, Aerocity still faces pressing civic challenges. Residents have reported persistent issues such as blocked drainage lines, irregular electricity supply, deteriorating roads, and inadequate waste disposal services. While the commercial property draw signals advancement for investors and LOI holders, the resolution of these civic deficiencies will be key to ensuring sustainable growth and liveability.

With development works on track for completion in the near future, applicants can expect greater certainty over their investments. However, the broader success of Aerocity as a commercial and residential hub will depend on Gmada's ability to address infrastructure shortcomings alongside property allocation.
