Synopsis

The Prime Minister inaugurated Bengaluru's Yellow Line Metro, a 19 km stretch from RV Road to Bommasandra. The INR 7,160 crore project adds 16 stations and expands the city's operational metro network to over 96 km. Officials said the corridor will ease pressure on Hosur Road, Silk Board and Electronics City, with train intervals starting at 25 minutes and planned to be reduced to 10 minutes.

India's Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi formally launched the Yellow Line of Bengaluru's metro network, marking a major milestone in the city's urban transport development. The 19 km line connects RV Road (Ragigudda) in the south to Bommasandra, incorporating 16 stations along its route. With a total investment of approximately INR 7,160 crore, this expansion pushes the total operational metro length in Bengaluru to beyond 96 km.

Authorities have expressed confidence that the Yellow Line will offer significant relief to daily commuters by decongesting key arterial routes, particularly Hosur Road, the busy Silk Board Junction, and the Electronics City corridor - areas notorious for heavy traffic.

The Deputy Chief Minister explained that three train sets are already operational on the line, with a fourth expected later this month. Initially, services will operate at 25-minute intervals, with plans to enhance the frequency to every 10 minutes once more rolling stock is available. This phased approach aims to manage passenger demand effectively while ensuring operational stability in the early stages.

Despite rainy weather conditions on the day of the launch, large crowds gathered along the route, showering flower petals and chanting slogans to welcome the Prime Minister's convoy from the city railway station to Ragigudda station.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the public's enthusiasm by waving to onlookers. The event was also attended by the Karnataka Governor, the Chief Minister, union ministers, the Deputy Chief Minister, and senior officials from the metro rail corporation.

The combination of improved connectivity, phased frequency upgrades, and strong public engagement highlights both the scale of the infrastructure investment and the high expectations for its impact on easing congestion and improving daily travel for thousands of residents.
