MHADA has slashed prices for 6,248 affordable homes in its Shirgaon and Khoni housing projects in Thane. The Shirgaon units now cost INR 19.28 lakh (down INR 1.43 lakh), while Khoni units are priced at INR 19.11 lakh (down INR 1.01 lakh). Available under a First-Come, First-Served model, the revised prices aim to boost homeownership. Separately, MBRRB is concluding its biometric survey of residents in Mumbai's transit camps. The survey, crucial for official registration, began in February. Non-participating residents risk being labeled unauthorized, risking eviction under MHADA Act Section 95(A)(3). The board urges full cooperation to avoid disqualification from future housing benefits.
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) recently announced significant price reductions for affordable homes in Thane district. MHADA's Konkan Board has revised the prices of 6,248 affordable homes located in its Shirgaon and Khoni housing projects, which are currently offered under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-Urban scheme, specifically for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
In Shirgaon, the price for 5,236 homes has been revised to INR 19,28,742 per house, following a reduction of INR 1,43,404 per unit. Similarly, in Khoni, the price for 1,012 homes has been lowered by INR 1,01,800 per house, bringing the new price to INR 19,11,700. These price adjustments mean that the homes are now available within the INR 20 lakh bracket.
The price reduction was approved by Sanjeev Jaiswal, Vice President and CEO of MHADA. Revati Gaikar, Chief Officer of the Konkan Board, reportedly encouraged citizens looking to buy their own house to take advantage of this opportunity. There is no specific deadline for purchasing these homes; sales will continue until all units are sold, under the First-Come, First-Served category. These homes were earlier offered under a similar scheme in October 2024.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board (MBRRB) announced that its biometric survey for tenants and residents living in transit camps under the board's jurisdiction in Mumbai is in its final phase. This essential survey, which began on February 10, is mandatory for the official registration of these tenants and residents.
Residents who fail to respond will be considered as either having no official documentation or no interest in residing in the transit camps. Such individuals will be declared unauthorized occupants, and immediate eviction proceedings will be initiated against them under Section 95(A)(3) of the MHADA Act, 1976. The board has appealed to the remaining individuals to participate and cooperate with the ongoing initiative.
