Synopsis

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is now expected to be completed by December 2029, according to the Ministry of Railways. Land acquisition stands at 90.4%, with Maharashtra trailing at 76.5%. Construction progress includes 87.5% completion of viaducts, 80.5% of stations and tunnels, 76.8% of bridges, and 38.6% of track installation. Electrification work is at 27.6%. Managed by NHSRCL, the 508 km high-speed rail line aims to cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to 2-3 hours. First announced in 2017 and delayed due to land issues, the project is seen as a major step in modernizing India's rail infrastructure.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, an important high-speed rail line, is now expected to finish by December 2029. This high-speed rail link aims to cut travel time between the major cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

In a written reply to Parliament, the Ministry of Railways provided details on the project's progress. Currently, 90.4 percent of the needed land across both Maharashtra and Gujarat has been acquired. This includes 97.4 percent in Gujarat, 99.4 percent in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and 76.5 percent in Maharashtra.

Work on the construction side is also well underway. About 87.5 percent of the viaducts and 80.5 percent of the stations are now complete. Additionally, 76.8 percent of bridge work and 80.5 percent of tunnels have been finished. Track installation has reached 38.6 percent completion, while electrification work stands at 27.6 percent.

The bullet train project, formally known as the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, had its foundation stone laid in September 2017. It was first expected to be completed by 2022. The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is in charge of carrying out this project. While the project faced early delays, especially with land acquisition in Maharashtra, it has gained speed recently.

The 508-kilometer long bullet train line is planned to operate at a maximum speed of 320 kilometers per hour. Once it is running, it will reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to about 2 to 3 hours, a big improvement over current travel times. This project is seen as a key part of modernizing India's railway infrastructure and helping economic ties in the region.
