The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has conducted 2,333 property tax camps across 12 zones under the SUNIYO scheme, aimed at boosting compliance and offering relief to property owners. With over 59,000 taxpayers already availing benefits, the initiative has generated INR 145.19 crore in collections. The scheme grants a full waiver on interest and penalties for dues predating FY 2020-21, provided the principal tax for FY 2025-26 and the previous five years is cleared. A 10% rebate on lump sum payments for FY 2025-26 remains available until the end of July.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has conducted a total of 2,333 property tax camps across its 12 administrative zones as part of its broader initiative to enhance property tax compliance and provide financial relief to property owners.
According to Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh, this campaign falls under the ongoing Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26, formally titled Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO). The scheme is designed to assist residents in regularising their property tax obligations by offering significant concessions.
As a result of the initiative, 59,411 taxpayers have already taken advantage of the relief measures, contributing a total of INR 145.19 crore to the civic body's coffers. Singh mentioned that over 56,000 citizens have actively participated in SUNIYO so far, and the number is steadily increasing.
To expand the scheme's outreach and respond to the rising interest, MCD has announced plans to host additional property tax camps. These upcoming sessions aim to ensure that all eligible taxpayers have the opportunity to benefit from the amnesty.
Under SUNIYO, complete waivers are being offered on accumulated interest and penalties relating to periods prior to the financial year 2020-21. To qualify for this amnesty, property owners must settle the principal amount of property tax due for the current financial year 2025-26, as well as for the previous five years-2020-21 through 2024-25.
The mayor called upon residents to treat this scheme as a rare opportunity to resolve pending dues without facing punitive charges. Additionally, he announced an extension for availing a 10% rebate on lump sum property tax payments for the current financial year. This rebate will now remain in effect until the end of July.
The rising participation reflects both public receptiveness and administrative responsiveness, while the continued rollout of tax camps suggests a sustained effort toward tax regularisation. This move stands to enhance civic financial health without resorting to coercive recovery measures, setting a precedent for other municipal bodies
