Three companies; Navayuga Engineering, Re Sustainability, and H G Infra Engineering, have bid for the BMC's INR 2,368 crore tender for bioremediation work at the Deonar dumpsite in Mumbai. The project aims to clear 185 lakh tonnes of waste and reclaim 110 hectares of land. The cleared land is designated for housing under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. All bidders have previous associations with the Adani Group. The final financial bid is scheduled to open on July 11, marking a step in Mumbai's waste management and urban development efforts.
Three companies have recently submitted bids for a major project. Navayuga Engineering Company (NEC) Limited, Re Sustainability Limited, and H G Infra Engineering Limited submitted their proposals by the July 4 deadline for work at the Deonar dumpsite in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This work aims to undertake bioremediation and land reclamation as part of a tender issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The project involves the bioremediation of 185 lakh tonnes of waste and the reclamation of 110 hectares of land at the Deonar dumpsite. This initiative aims to clear mounds of untreated waste. Bioremediation is a process that uses natural elements like air, sunlight, and microorganisms to decompose biodegradable waste, with non-biodegradable extracts being recycled or artificially treated.
The BMC's tender for this work is valued at INR 2,368 crore. The cleared land will be used for constructing housing tenements under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, which is a joint venture between the Adani Group and the Maharashtra Government's Slum Rehabilitation Authority. While 21 contractors showed interest during the pre-bid phase, only these three companies submitted proposals. All three bidders have prior project-related associations with the Adani Group.
Navayuga Engineering Company is in a joint venture with Adani Enterprises Limited for the Vijayawada Bypass Project. H. G. Infra Engineering Limited is working with Adani Road Transport on the Ganga Expressway. Re Sustainability Limited is developing waste management infrastructure for Adani Ports and SEZ at Mundra.
BMC officials noted that only Re Sustainability has prior experience in municipal solid waste management, with the other two being primarily infrastructure and engineering companies. The final financial bid for the tender is scheduled to be opened on July 11. Remediation of old dumpsites is a common urban challenge, aiming to reclaim valuable land for development and address environmental concerns.
