Phase 1 of the Kasarvadavli Flyover in Thane, Maharashtra, has opened to traffic. The two-lane flyover, constructed by MMRDA, aims to ease traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road, particularly for office and freight movement. Designed to integrate with Metro Line 4, this initial phase is expected to reduce travel time from Waghbil to Gaimukh and improve connectivity among Thane, Mumbai, and neighboring areas. The next phase is underway, aligning with Metro construction for smoother intermodal transit.
Phase 1 of the Kasarvadavli Flyover has recently opened for vehicle traffic in Thane, Maharashtra. This project, constructed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), aims to ease traffic congestion on a busy road.
The flyover is a two-lane structure, 7.5 meters wide, and includes a 2x2 lane underpass with a ramp length of 721 meters. It is designed to accommodate 73,333 passenger cars. The primary goal of the Kasarvadavli flyover project is to alleviate traffic on Ghodbunder Road, particularly office and heavy freight movement, much of which leads to the Mumbai-Gujarat corridor through Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) or Vashi.
The flyover is also designed to integrate with the upcoming Metro Line 4, connecting Wadala to Gaimukh, to ensure smooth intermodal connectivity. Officials anticipate that the completion of Phase 1 will reduce travel time from Waghbil to Gaimukh. It is also expected to improve connectivity among Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Vasai, and Virar. State transport minister Pratap Sarnaik inaugurated the project.
The next phase of the flyover is currently underway and is expected to be completed in line with the Metro line construction along the same route. Flyovers are infrastructure solutions in urban areas to manage increasing traffic and reduce travel times.
