Synopsis

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has organized 1,862 property tax camps across its 12 zones to boost participation in its Amnesty Scheme, launched in May. Over 48,546 taxpayers have already been assisted. Under the 'Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana' (SUNIYO), taxpayers can receive a full waiver of past property tax, interest, and penalties incurred before FY 2020-21, by paying current and five preceding fiscal years' principal tax. The MCD plans more camps to extend these benefits and improve tax collection across the city.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has recently organized numerous special camps for property tax. This initiative, seen across its various zones in Delhi, aims to encourage more residents to participate in a property tax amnesty scheme. The MCD has set up over a thousand such camps.

The MCD has organized 1,862 property tax camps across its 12 zones. These camps aim to encourage participation in the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme, which was launched in May. So far, over 48,546 taxpayers have received assistance through these camps. The MCD plans to continue holding more camps to extend the benefits of both the Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26 and the Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana (SUNIYO).

Under the SUNIYO scheme, taxpayers can receive a complete waiver of property tax, interest, and penalties for dues incurred before the financial year 2020-21. To qualify for this waiver, taxpayers must pay the principal property tax for the current year (2025-26) and the preceding five financial years (FY 2020-21 to FY 2024-25) without any interest or penalties. Taxpayers or Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) can request a camp in their area by contacting their zonal offices.

Property tax amnesty schemes are commonly used by municipal bodies to recover outstanding dues and regularize tax collections, especially from long-time defaulters. The active participation from citizens in these camps indicates a positive impact on taxpayer engagement with the amnesty scheme.
