Synopsis

Patna Smart City Limited installed a surveillance network of 187 cameras covering 35 major ghats along the Ganga river to support the forthcoming Chhath Mahaparv in Patna. The cameras, which include fixed and pan-tilt-zoom units, are linked to the city's Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). Four temporary control rooms will also be operational, managed by district administration and police teams. Alongside this, 16 public address (PA) systems at the ghats will broadcast safety and cleanliness messages.

The Patna Smart City initiative has expanded its surveillance infrastructure to cover 35 ghats along the Ganga river, using a total of 187 cameras. These include both fixed units and PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, positioned at key locations such as Collectorate, Bans, Kangan and JP Setu ghats. The live feeds from these cameras are monitored at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). Staff at the ICCC keep watch on movement in designated safety-perimeters, and immediately alert on-site officers and the Bihar Police if any irregular activity or breach is detected.

In addition to the camera network, four temporary control rooms have been set up at NIT, Meenar, Patipul ghats and Ghat 93. These rooms will be staffed by district administration and police personnel to enhance on-ground coordination. To further support the initiative, public safety and cleanliness messages will be broadcast via public address systems: out of a total of 69 PA units installed city-wide, 16 have been activated specifically at the ghats.

These measures build on earlier preparations by the administration: for example, the Patna district had already readied over 550 ghats, parks and ponds for the Chhath festival, deploying teams of NDRF/SDRF personnel, divers and boats. The current camera-and-control-room deployment aims to reinforce the safety framework by combining technology with manpower and messaging.
