Following the partial collapse of a dilapidated building on Plot No. 59, Sector 26, Parsik Hill in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a full-scale demolition of the structure. The building, already categorised as C2-B during 2020-2021, had previously received structural audit notices in August 2024 and May 2025. Under the directives of the Municipal Commissioner and supervision of the Encroachment Department, demolition was executed using heavy machinery and a dedicated team of officials and labourers to eliminate risks to public safety.
Upon receiving reports about the partial collapse of a structure located on Plot No. 59, Sector 26, Parsik Hill in CBD Belapur, officials and staff from the Belapur ward office visited the site and confirmed the damage. The building was in a visibly dangerous condition, prompting urgent demolition action by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
Acting under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, the demolition was undertaken by the Belapur A Ward Office, led by Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Dr Amol Palwe. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of the Encroachment Department Dr Kailas Gaikwad, with the assistance of Sub-Engineer Mr Pandharinath Chaude, Junior Engineers Mr Abhay Gavit, Mr Dhiren Bhoir, and Mr Nayan Bhoir. The task force included municipal staff, security personnel from the Encroachment Department, 2 JCBs, 1 Pokland machine, and 10 labourers.
The building had previously been declared under the C2-B category during 2020-2021, indicating its dilapidated and unsafe status. Structural audit notices had been issued to the concerned parties through letters dated 16 August 2024 and 22 May 2025, urging inspection and action. Despite these warnings, a part of the structure collapsed, raising serious safety concerns. Since the building was unoccupied, authorities proceeded with a full-scale demolition to prevent any potential danger to the surrounding area.
By following up on prior notices and responding immediately to structural damage, the civic body ensured that hazards were neutralised before leading to any casualties or further deterioration. This incident also reaffirms the importance of structural audits and timely intervention in ageing or unsafe constructions.
