The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has intensified its enforcement drive against illegal use of marginal spaces and unauthorised hawkers across multiple wards. Civic teams carried out coordinated inspections in Vashi, Belapur and the APMC Market area, seizing materials and collecting penalties exceeding INR 1.55 lakh as part of a citywide effort to keep roads and footpaths obstruction-free.
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has launched a citywide enforcement campaign against the illegal use of marginal spaces and unauthorised hawking activities, conducting coordinated operations across several ward jurisdictions. The drive is aimed at ensuring unobstructed movement for pedestrians and maintaining compliance with civic regulations governing public spaces.
Following similar action in the Belapur ward, the civic encroachment department carried out a focused operation in Vashi, targeting areas in Sectors 17 and 2. During the drive, officials identified commercial establishments misusing marginal spaces beyond their permitted limits. Materials and equipment belonging to the violators were seized and subsequently transferred to a designated storage facility in Koparkhairane.
A parallel operation was undertaken in the APMC Market area of Sector 19, where additional instances of unauthorised use of marginal spaces were detected. Goods belonging to errant traders were confiscated as part of the enforcement exercise. Civic officials said penalties amounting to INR 1.55 lakh were collected during the combined operations.
In addition to action against marginal space violations, enforcement teams also targeted unauthorised hawkers operating across Vashi, Turbhe, Koparkhairane and Ghansoli. Simultaneously, a separate drive was conducted across all ward areas to remove banners and hoardings erected without municipal permission.
The civic body said the campaign is being carried out under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, with operational supervision from Additional Commissioner Dr Rahul Gethre and Deputy Commissioner of Encroachment Dr Kailas Gaikwad. The objective, officials said, is to ensure that roads and footpaths remain accessible to citizens and are not encroached upon by illegal structures, unauthorised commercial activity or improper use of designated spaces.
Municipal authorities indicated that such enforcement drives will continue across Navi Mumbai in the coming days, with a sustained focus on clearing encroachments and maintaining urban order in public areas.
