Synopsis

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) conducted a demolition drive in Tilpath Valley, Sainik Farms, targeting illegal farmhouses built on green land allocated for a biodiversity park. The operation recovered around 4.5 acres of land, including a property previously protected by a temporary stay order from the Delhi High Court. Earlier, five of nine identified properties were demolished, including fully built and semi-built farmhouses and a vacant plot. Officials clarified that the land is outside protections under the NCT of Delhi Act, 2014, making the structures unauthorised. This step contributes to conservation and urban land regulation efforts.

The Delhi Development Authority carried out a focused demolition drive in Tilpath Valley, located in the Sainik Farms area of south Delhi. The action targeted farmhouses and a vacant plot that had been constructed on green land designated for a biodiversity park. This operation led to the reclamation of approximately 4.5 acres, reinforcing the authority's commitment to preserving environmentally sensitive land.

Officials stated that the demolished structures were not covered under the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Special Provisions) Act, 2014, which protects informal settlements such as jhuggi jhopri clusters. The demolition targeted properties on Khasra numbers 595, 596, and 620.

During an earlier phase of the drive, nine properties were surveyed. Out of these, five including two fully built farmhouses, two partially constructed farmhouses, and one bounded vacant plot were demolished. This phase alone allowed the DDA to recover about four acres of land.

Three additional properties could not be demolished immediately due to an existing stay order from the Delhi High Court. One specific property on Khasra No 596 remained untouched in compliance with court directions. However, the high court later declined to extend the stay during a hearing, allowing the DDA to proceed with the demolition. This final action reclaimed an additional 0.5 acre.

Authorities highlighted that the recovered land now contributes to the intended biodiversity park in Tilpath Valley. They also emphasized that Sainik Farms, historically a cooperative settlement, has faced recurring scrutiny for unauthorised residential constructions, making such enforcement necessary for maintaining regulatory standards.

The demolition drive was carried out with necessary enforcement support, and no major law-and-order issues were reported. Officials noted that reclaiming this land strengthens Delhi's green space and aligns with the broader objective of sustainable urban planning.
