Synopsis

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu conducted a detailed review of ongoing Border Roads Organisation (BRO) projects in the Tawang sector, a strategically sensitive area along the India-China border. The meeting focused on construction progress, operational challenges in high-altitude terrain, and timely completion of roads crucial for defence logistics and civilian mobility. The discussion also highlighted the BRO's contribution to local socio-economic development, disaster response, and tourism. The state government emphasized coordination with central agencies to accelerate infrastructure development in remote border districts.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently met the Director General of Border Roads, Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan, along with senior BRO officials, to review key road projects in the Tawang sector. Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo also attended the session. The Chief Minister described the meeting as a productive interaction that examined ongoing projects and the challenges of operating in high-altitude, rugged terrain.

Khandu acknowledged the BRO's pivotal role in strengthening national security while supporting socio-economic development in border regions. He noted that, despite operational difficulties, the organisation continues to make consistent progress on road construction, which is vital for both defence preparedness and improving civilian mobility.

Officials highlighted that roads in Tawang enhance defence logistics, facilitate disaster response, and support local economic activities, particularly tourism and trade. Improved connectivity in these border areas ensures faster movement of troops and equipment and better access to remote communities.

The Chief Minister stressed that timely completion of projects remains critical to maintain strategic readiness and meet civilian needs. The state government continues to coordinate closely with the BRO and other central agencies to expedite infrastructure works in frontier districts.

Past efforts by the BRO in Arunachal Pradesh have included restoring landslide-affected roads, constructing all-weather connectivity, and expanding critical transport links. These projects are part of a broader plan to strengthen infrastructure in the Northeast, including highway development and tunneling projects aimed at maintaining year-round connectivity across challenging terrain.
