Telangana has signed a long-term agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for an investment of USD 7 billion to expand cloud data centre capacity in the state over the next 14 years. The agreement was finalised during the Telangana Rising Global Summit held recently, where the state committed to providing infrastructure support and smoother business processes to help AWS scale its operations. The expansion is expected to strengthen the Hyderabad AWS Region and support India's digital ecosystem, including government platforms, startups, enterprises, and new-age technology users.
The Telangana government has entered into a framework agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) under which the company will invest USD 7 billion to expand its cloud data centre infrastructure in the state over the next 14 years. The agreement was executed during the Telangana Rising Global Summit held late last week, where the state committed to providing facilitation support, suitable infrastructure, and streamlined business processes to help AWS scale its regional operations.
According to the official communication, the planned expansion is expected to strengthen the Hyderabad AWS Region, which already serves as one of the key cloud hubs in India. The state noted that the enhanced infrastructure will support a wide base of users across the country, including government departments, enterprises, startups, and firms working with advanced technologies such as cloud computing and AI.
The release mentioned that AWS stated the expanded Hyderabad region would play a central role in powering cloud services across India. The company highlighted that the long-term investment is aimed at supporting the country's digital transformation efforts and enabling more organisations to build technology-driven operations.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy welcomed the commitment and said the investment demonstrated strong confidence from global technology companies in Telangana's governance and long-term development plans. He also linked the investment to the state's broader economic vision for 2047, emphasising the role of stable policy and infrastructure readiness in attracting large-scale projects.
AWS India and South Asia President Sandeep Dutta said the framework agreement reflects the company's ongoing engagement with India's digital economy. He noted that AWS aims to support Telangana's ambition to strengthen its technology ecosystem by creating employment opportunities, encouraging local enterprise participation, and helping develop a skilled workforce capable of supporting digital services nationwide.
The company has previously invested in large-scale cloud regions across India, with Hyderabad being one of its key markets since the launch of the region earlier. The new investment marks one of its largest long-term commitments in the country's cloud infrastructure sector.
