Delhi Chief Minister Shrimati Rekha Gupta highlighted persistent gaps in the city's civic infrastructure, noting that many areas still lack water pipelines and sewer connections even after decades of governance under previous administrations. She said residents continue to depend on water tankers and that key pipelines are being desilted only now, despite relying on a 1973-era master plan. Gupta criticised legislators for not prioritising core civic issues and urged better planning to use available funds effectively. At the event, she inaugurated 70 new Ayushman Mandirs offering diagnostics, medicines and essential services, and announced upcoming beautification projects, assuring that funding would not hinder Delhi's development goals.
Delhi's Chief Minister Shrimati Rekha Gupta recently pointed out that many parts of the city still lack essential civic infrastructure. She said that even after 15 years under Congress rule and 11 years under the AAP government, vast areas remain without water lines or sewer connections. Many residents continue to depend on water tankers for supply, which remains a concern for a city of this scale.
Shrimati Gupta added that only now, after 27 years, desilting and repair work on key pipelines has begun to address long-pending water shortages. She mentioned that the city's system continues to rely on a 1973 master plan, and no comprehensive water-sewer overhaul has taken place since then.
The CM criticised legislators who show funds on paper but do not prioritise core civic issues. She questioned whether they ever sought detailed lists of problems in their constituencies before releasing money. She said that with proper planning, available funds could have been used effectively to close infrastructure gaps.
During the event, Shrimati Gupta inaugurated 70 new Ayushman Mandirs. She contrasted these with the earlier Mohalla Clinics, saying those had limited facilities and often functioned as publicity exercises. In comparison, the new centres offer diagnostics, medicines and essential health services under one roof. She said that around 1,200 centres have already been established to improve healthcare across Delhi.
She also discussed upcoming urban improvement works. The government plans to beautify stretches such as the Ghanta Ghar-Azadpur corridor, with upgraded footpaths, roofing and general infrastructure improvements. Historic colonies are also expected to be included in this upgrade plan.
Shrimati Rekha Gupta assured residents that funding will not hinder any project. She emphasised that clear planning and prioritisation will help ensure the city's development goals are met without delays.
