Synopsis

Antara Senior Care, part of the USD 7-billion Max Group, has expanded its presence in Bengaluru with a new 80-bed senior care home in Whitefield, increasing its total capacity in the city to about 163 beds. The new centre strengthens Antara's assisted living and transition care services, backed by geriatric-trained teams and round-the-clock clinical support. Bengaluru's ageing population, changing family structures, and growing demand for organised senior care have contributed to the need for such facilities. With this launch, Antara now operates 500 beds across its national network of care homes.

Antara Senior Care, part of the USD 7-billion Max Group, has expanded its footprint in Bengaluru with the opening of a new senior care home in Whitefield. The facility adds 80 beds to the company's portfolio in the city, taking its total capacity across Bengaluru to nearly 163 beds across the Bannerghatta and Whitefield centres. Nationally, Antara now has 500 operational beds. The new facility offers assisted living and transition care services designed for seniors who require short-, medium-, or long-term support.

The company's decision to expand in Bengaluru is shaped by the city's ageing demographic trends. Bengaluru's proportion of residents aged 60 and above stands at around 11 percent, which is higher than the national average. Many seniors manage chronic conditions and often live alone as children move abroad or shift for work, creating growing demand for structured senior care. The Whitefield care home aims to support such families by offering medically supervised, everyday care in a planned setup.

Ishaan Khanna, CEO of Antara Assisted Care Services, said that periods following hospitalisation or ongoing daily care needs often become emotionally and logistically difficult for families balancing multiple responsibilities. He stated that the rise in super seniors aged 80 and above has created a stronger need for consistent support that differs from the needs of younger seniors. He added that the Whitefield expansion is intended to provide dignified, medically supervised care, supported by trained teams and financial tools such as TPA-enabled transition care, which are already active in Delhi-NCR and Bannerghatta.

The new Whitefield facility is equipped with infrastructure for post-surgery care and recovery after acute illnesses. It has 24x7 nursing, specialist doctor access, geriatric-trained teams, an in-house kitchen offering dietician-planned meals, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and a structured social engagement calendar aimed at reducing loneliness and supporting cognitive wellbeing. The centre follows Antara's approach of providing care in a way that helps seniors maintain independence while receiving necessary assistance.

The expansion comes at a time when India's senior population is projected to increase from about 150 million at present to more than 350 million by 2050. Companies like Antara have been working to build physical and human infrastructure to meet the needs of this growing demographic. Antara's care homes across Delhi-NCR, Chennai, and Bengaluru follow in-house geriatric training standards certified by the Healthcare Sector Skill Council of India, and several of its centres are NABH-accredited.

Antara was launched in 2013 as part of Max India Limited. Its business includes senior living residences and assisted care services. Its first residential community in Dehradun houses nearly 200 families. Another senior living project in Noida's Sector 150 is expected to open in 2025, with 340 apartments built in the first phase. The company is also expanding in Gurugram through Estate 360, an intergenerational community developed by Max Estates, where Antara will manage senior living spaces and primary healthcare services.

Apart from care homes, Antara's Assisted Care Services include Care at Home, a Memory Care Home, and AGEasy, a retail platform for senior-specific products. Care at Home services operate across Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Chennai, offering trained professionals for home-based support. Its care homes across Gurugram, Noida, Bengaluru, and Chennai provide long-term medical supervision as well as short-term recuperative care.
