Synopsis

The Andhra Pradesh government has partnered with Aerpace Industries to develop India's first Drone City in Kurnool. The project, planned across 300 acres near Orvakal, will support drone manufacturing, testing, certification, component research, and pilot training. Aerpace will bring its experience in defence UAVs, logistics drones, heavy-lift platforms, and AI-based systems. The state aims to build a structured ecosystem that supports long-term aerospace growth. The initiative is part of Andhra Pradesh's wider plan to strengthen innovation, industry development, and skilled employment in the unmanned systems sector.

The Andhra Pradesh government has formalised a partnership with Aerpace Industries to build the country's first Drone City in the Kurnool region. This agreement, signed through the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, outlines a joint plan to create a dedicated ecosystem for drone development and advanced unmanned systems.

The project covers about 300 acres at Orvakal, located close to the Kurnool airport and positioned within a broader high-tech development corridor. The Drone City is planned as a complete ecosystem that will support manufacturing, testing facilities, certification processes, training centres, and focused research and development for drone components and system-level improvements.

Aerpace Industries has been engaged with the state government for several months before the agreement, participating in technical evaluations, design discussions, and capability demonstrations. The company specialises in defence-grade UAVs, heavy-lift platforms, logistics drones, and AI-enabled mobility systems. Through this partnership, Aerpace intends to set up a full-scale manufacturing and testing campus within the Drone City. The planned units will focus on defence applications, civilian logistics, and next-generation autonomous platforms.

The collaboration also includes training programmes for remote pilots, skilling initiatives for technicians, and research efforts focused on improving drone hardware, energy systems, and operational reliability. These activities are expected to support long-term capability building across the unmanned aviation sector.

The Drone City aligns with Andhra Pradesh's broader development priorities, which include strengthening aerospace and space-related infrastructure. The state plans to build a foundation that supports industry growth, employment generation, and domestic production of advanced technology. This initiative adds to ongoing efforts to attract high-technology investments and position Andhra Pradesh as a competitive centre for aerospace innovation.

The partnership reflects Aerpace's interest in expanding India's autonomous aviation capabilities and contributing to stronger national capacity in unmanned systems. The company views the Drone City project as an opportunity to support large-scale adoption of drone technology across sectors such as defence, logistics, emergency response, and industrial operations.
