Synopsis

GE Aerospace has announced a new USD 14 million investment to increase capacity at its 10-year-old manufacturing facility in Pune. The fresh funding adds to the USD 30 million committed last year, taking the total investment for the site to USD 44 million within a short period. The company will focus on upgrading manufacturing processes, increasing automation, and strengthening capabilities for advanced engine components. The Pune unit supports engines such as GE90, GEnx, GE9X and LEAP, and is backed by more than 300 suppliers locally and over 2,200 across India. The facility has also built a strong talent base over the past decade.

GE Aerospace recently announced that it will invest an additional USD 14 million to expand capacity at its manufacturing facility in Pune. With this commitment, the total investment announced for the 10-year-old site in less than two years has reached USD 44 million. The Pune unit manufactures components for GE90, GEnx, GE9X and LEAP engines. The LEAP engine is produced by CFM, a joint venture between GE and Safran.

The company noted that the new investment will help upgrade manufacturing processes and increase automation, along with improvements supporting next-generation engine components. At the current exchange rate, the USD 14 million investment is valued at around INR 124 crore.

The facility is supported by a strong network of more than 300 suppliers, while GE Aerospace works with over 2,200 suppliers across India. Over the past decade, the plant has trained more than 5,000 production associates in precision manufacturing practices, contributing to the growth of local talent and strengthening India's aerospace supply chain.

Initially established as a multi-business manufacturing site, the Pune facility has evolved into a high-tech aerospace parts supplier catering to GE's global commercial engine factories. Vishwajit Singh, Managing Director of the Pune facility, said the latest investment signals the company's long-term commitment to the Make in India programme and reinforces India's growing position in global aerospace manufacturing.

The Pune plant operates using GE's proprietary lean operations model, known as FLIGHT DECK. Beyond this manufacturing hub, GE Aerospace also runs the John F. Welch Technology Centre in Bengaluru, which recently marked 25 years of operation. Across Indian carriers, more than 1,400 commercial engines from GE and CFM are currently in service.
