Aion-Tech Solutions' subsidiary, ROQIT Greenfield Digital, has partnered with Indian Railways to launch an AI-powered logistics platform for small parcel deliveries. The pilot will begin early next year with South Central Railway and aims for a nationwide rollout. The platform will integrate ETO Motors for sustainable first- and last-mile delivery and feature a cloud-native app with real-time tracking, digital payments, and partner selection. Light-to-medium-weight parcels currently account for less than 1 per cent of railway traffic in India, highlighting a major efficiency gap ROQIT intends to bridge.
Aion-Tech Solutions announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, ROQIT Greenfield Digital, has secured a contract with Indian Railways to design and deploy an AI-powered logistics platform for light-to-medium-weight parcel deliveries. The pilot phase is scheduled to begin with South Central Railway early next year, which will set the stage for a nationwide rollout of a fully digital small parcel delivery system.
This project represents a major step in modernising India's logistics sector through technology and sustainable innovation. Alongside this initiative, Aion-Tech is advancing sustainable multimodal transport through its electric vehicle arm, ETO Motors. ROQIT CEO Pavan Chavali highlighted that the collaboration with Indian Railways is a transformative move toward a next-generation logistics ecosystem, integrating rail's scale with intelligent first- and last-mile mobility solutions.
During the pilot, ETO Motors will be used to ensure seamless, zero-emission parcel pick-up and delivery. The project also involves the development of a cloud-native mobile application providing complete door-to-door parcel services. This platform will replace manual, paper-based processes with features such as predictive scheduling, instant booking, digital payments, and real-time tracking. Additionally, a marketplace model will allow customers to select logistics partners based on cost, speed, and sustainability.
Freight contributes nearly 70 per cent of Indian Railways' revenue, while passenger transport accounts for the remaining 30 per cent. Despite this, light-to-medium-weight parcels weighing up to 150 kg currently represent less than 1 per cent of total traffic volume. In contrast, developed markets like Germany, the European Union, Japan, and the United States see such parcel traffic ranging from 2 to 6 per cent of their railway networks.
ROQIT's AI-driven platform aims to address these gaps by unlocking the potential of small parcel logistics in India. The solution seeks to create a fully digital, customer-focused, and environmentally sustainable ecosystem, bringing efficiency and scalability to a segment that has remained largely underutilized.
