Noida Authority has begun trial runs on the 4.5-km Bhangel Elevated Road after pressure from a farmers' group demanding its immediate opening. The six-lane corridor runs parallel to the DSC Road, connecting the Aghapur petrol pump to the Noida Special Economic Zone, and is expected to ease traffic for several residential sectors and nearby villages. First proposed in 2012, the project faced long delays due to funding issues, design revisions and construction challenges. Its cost increased from INR 468 crore to about INR 608 crore. Earlier this year, the alignment was slightly modified after two unapproved buildings obstructed the original plan.
Noida Authority has started the trial run of the Bhangel Elevated Road, a six-lane corridor spanning about 4.5 km, after receiving pressure from a farmers' group that demanded immediate public access. Members of BKU-Lokshakti had argued that the structure was complete and that delaying its opening for a formal inauguration was unnecessary.
The elevated corridor runs parallel to the Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road and stretches from the Aghapur petrol pump to the Noida Special Economic Zone. The route is expected to ease movement for residents of sectors 40, 41, 43, 47, 48, 82, 88, 101 and 106, along with nearby villages including Sadarpur, Chhalera, Barolla, Salarpur and Agahpur.
The project was first proposed in 2012, with a detailed plan finalised in 2016. Construction officially began in June 2020 with a target completion by December 2022, but funding shortages and engineering revisions pushed the work well beyond the timeline. The estimated cost rose from INR 468 crore to approximately INR 608 crore by the time the project neared completion.
Earlier this year, the alignment had to be adjusted after two unapproved buildings were found obstructing the original design. This led to a minor width reduction of 0.5 metre to accommodate the structures. Officials noted that the project finally gained pace through closer supervision and frequent on-site reviews.
