The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a tender of about INR 9.64 crore to construct the 325-metre promenade stretch between Lotus Jetty and Baroda Palace. This portion could not be built earlier due to pending CRZ permission, which was granted around five months ago. The project includes an 8-metre-wide walkway, a 2-metre cycle track, landscape elements, tetrapod installation, and access for police and fire services. Once work begins, the construction is expected to take around six months, though administrative delays remain possible.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has floated a tender valued at nearly INR 9.64 crore to complete the 325-metre promenade segment linking Lotus Jetty and Baroda Palace in Worli. This missing section has remained incomplete since it was not part of the main coastal road works due to the absence of CRZ clearance at the time. The approval was received about five months ago, allowing the civic body to move ahead with the project.
The full promenade spans about 7.5 kilometres from Priyadarshini Park to J.K. Kapoor Chowk near the Worli-Bandra Sea Link. Most of this stretch is already operational, including the portions from Priyadarshini Park to Haji Ali and from Baroda Palace to Worli. Completing the remaining 325 metres will create a continuous walkway along the western coastline.
The planned promenade will be 8 metres wide, with 2 metres dedicated to a cycle track. The design also includes access to a proposed police post near Samudra Mahal and provisions for fire brigade movement to ensure safety and surveillance along the route. Additional works such as landscape development, tetrapod placement, and connectivity adjustments are part of the project scope.
The tender amount excludes GST, so the total expenditure is expected to cross INR 10 crore. Officials estimate that the construction will take around six months once the work order is issued. However, there may be delays if the civic election code of conduct becomes applicable, as it would temporarily restrict administrative approvals.
The project is an important step in completing the coastal promenade, which has been under development in phases over the past few years following CRZ permissions and construction milestones.
