ReNew Energy Global Plc, a company focused on decarbonisation solutions, has entered into an agreement with the Andhra Pradesh government to invest INR 60,000 crore in green energy projects. The deals were signed with the state's Economic Development Board in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The investment will support the establishment of a 6 GW ingot wafer plant, a 2 GW pumped hydro project, a 300 KTPA green ammonia facility, and 5 GW of hybrid projects, which include wind-solar and solar-battery energy storage system (BESS) initiatives. An official release highlighted that ReNew plans to set up multiple renewable energy projects across the state.
Earlier, IT Minister Nara Lokesh had stated that ReNew's total planned investment in Andhra Pradesh spans INR 82,000 crore across the renewable energy value chain. This figure includes a previous investment of INR 22,000 crore. In May, Lokesh had laid the foundation for this earlier ReNew project in Anantapur district, which included a 4.8 GWp hybrid farm with BESS at Bethapalli village in Gooty mandal.
With the new INR 60,000 crore commitment, ReNew's total investment in Andhra Pradesh now stands at INR 82,000 crore. CM Naidu noted that Andhra Pradesh aims to become a national leader in renewable energy, emphasizing that collaborations with partners like ReNew are vital to achieving this goal.
The latest investment is expected to create around 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. ReNew will contribute to the state's renewable energy targets, which include 78.5 GW of solar energy, 35 GW of wind power capacity, and 25 GWh of battery energy storage. IT Minister Lokesh further mentioned that ReNew's investments will focus on advanced technology areas such as solar ingot and wafer manufacturing, project development, and green hydrogen production.
