Synopsis

Flipkart has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) fleet to over 20,000 units, doubling its size within a year. The company stated that more than 70% of its grocery deliveries are now completed through EVs. As part of its commitment under the Climate Group's EV100 initiative, Flipkart has also started a pilot project for long-haul electric trucks in partnership with Golden Aero Logistics. The pilot, conducted on the Delhi-Jaipur route using a retrofitted Kalyani truck, will assess performance, charging efficiency, and turnaround times.

Flipkart announced that it has more than doubled its electric vehicle (EV) delivery fleet, taking the total count to over 20,000 units across India. This move marks a key step toward the company's goal of achieving a 100% electric last-mile delivery network by 2030, under the EV100 initiative led by The Climate Group.

The expanded fleet now operates in several major metropolitan regions and tier-2 cities, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, and Lucknow. The company noted that over 70% of its grocery deliveries are currently carried out through EVs, reducing its overall carbon footprint while supporting its sustainability roadmap.

In addition to expanding its delivery fleet, Flipkart has launched a pilot for long-haul electric trucks to explore their use for inter-city freight movement. The company has partnered with Golden Aero Logistics for this initiative and introduced a retrofitted Kalyani electric truck to operate on the Delhi-Jaipur corridor. The pilot is designed to test the vehicle's performance, range, charging efficiency, and operational turnaround time for medium-distance freight transport.

To build awareness among its delivery workforce, Flipkart has been running an EV roadshow across multiple cities in partnership with manufacturers like Bajaj, Revolt, and Mahindra. The program allows delivery executives, commonly known as wishmasters, to experience different EV models, understand charging processes, and learn about battery life and maintenance.

The company has also introduced a digital campaign to educate delivery partners on safe vehicle handling and charging practices. A recent survey among 5,400 partners revealed that nearly half are interested in adopting EVs, although many cited limited access to affordable financing and charging infrastructure as key challenges.

Over the past few years, Flipkart has been gradually increasing its EV deployment through collaborations with OEMs and energy infrastructure partners. In 2023, the company had already deployed over 10,000 EVs and supported charging station setups in major cities to encourage wider adoption. The current expansion, along with the long-haul pilot, reflects the company's continued focus on sustainability and operational efficiency.
