Synopsis

"JSW Energy, through its subsidiary JSW Energy (Utkal) Ltd, has finalised a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement with multiple Karnataka discoms for supplying 400 MW of power starting April 1, 2026. The tariff has been set at INR 5.78 per kWh. The agreement lowers the company’s open capacity to about 5 per cent and improves the stability of its long-term earnings. With this development, JSW Energy’s locked-in generation capacity has reached 30.5 GW, supported by operational assets, ongoing construction, hydro additions, a strong development pipeline, and large energy-storage commitments. "

JSW Energy announced that its subsidiary JSW Energy (Utkal) Ltd has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement with several Karnataka distribution companies for the supply of 400 MW of electricity. The supply is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026. The agreement spans 25 years and has been finalised at a tariff of INR 5.78 per kWh. With this new arrangement, the company has reduced its open capacity from nearly 8 per cent to about 5 per cent, giving it better revenue visibility and reducing exposure to short-term market conditions.

This agreement has increased JSW Energy’s total locked-in generation capacity to 30.5 GW. This includes 13.3 GW of operational capacity, 12.4 GW under construction across thermal and renewable projects, 150 MW of hydro capacity currently under acquisition, and a development pipeline of 4.6 GW. The company has been steadily expanding its portfolio to maintain a balanced mix of thermal, renewable, and hydro-based power.

Along with this, JSW Energy also has 29.4 GWh of secured energy-storage capacity. This consists of 26.4 GWh of hydro pumped-storage projects and 3 GWh of battery-energy storage systems. These assets play an important role in supporting renewable integration and ensuring consistent supply, especially as power demand trends continue to rise in major consumption states.

The company has reaffirmed its long-term goals of reaching 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of storage capacity by FY 2030. It has also maintained its commitment to become carbon-neutral by 2050. JSW Energy forms part of the USD 23 billion JSW Group, which operates across sectors such as steel, infrastructure, cement and sports, and is currently building 12.4 GW of additional power capacity to meet its 2030 targets.
