Synopsis

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) in Gurugram carried out a major enforcement drive earlier this week against unauthorised colonies developing close to the KMP Expressway. Officials cleared illegal plotting across nearly 8.3 acres in the Sultanpur revenue area by removing DPC structures, internal roads, boundary walls and a dealer office used to mislead buyers. The department also acted on a citizen complaint to demolish an unauthorised shop inside a Sector 50 housing society. The recent action reflects DTCP's ongoing efforts to check unapproved development along high-demand corridors.

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) in Gurugram intensified its focus on unlawful real estate activity near the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway, carrying out a demolition drive earlier this week. Officials cleared two unauthorised colonies spread across about 6 acres and 2.3 acres in the Sultanpur revenue estate. During the operation, teams removed four DPC structures, internal roads, a boundary wall and a dealer's temporary office that was being used to give buyers the impression of official approval. The stretch around the KMP Expressway has seen increasing land activity in recent years, prompting the need for regular monitoring.

The enforcement team was supported by local police to ensure smooth execution of the demolition work. Authorities said the unauthorised plotting and road layout were designed to market land parcels without any permissions. DTCP officials added that developers were presenting these layouts as if they were part of approved plans, causing concern for unsuspecting land buyers who may assume the sites are legally sanctioned.

In another action on the same day, the DTCP also demolished an unauthorised commercial shop inside Wembley Estate, a group housing society in Sector 50. This step was taken after a resident filed a complaint on the CM Window platform, and officials noted that the construction violated the permitted residential use of the complex. They also stated that such complaints are being handled promptly to ensure that violations inside private societies are not ignored.

The KMP Expressway belt has been a sensitive zone for enforcement due to rising investor interest and repeated attempts by local developers to carve out unauthorised plots. DTCP has been conducting several such drives over the past year to prevent unplanned construction and protect buyers from misleading land offerings. The department has also been tracking earlier violations across other parts of Gurugram, especially in areas where boundary walls, internal roads and temporary sales structures are developed without approvals to create the impression of a formal colony.

Officials said the area will continue to be monitored closely, as illegal colonies often reappear even after demolition. The department has also been advising buyers to verify approvals before purchasing land in fast-developing pockets around the KMP corridor, where unplanned growth has been a repeated concern for urban planning authorities.
