Synopsis

Uber has introduced Uber Direct, a B2B logistics service integrated with ONDC, starting in Bengaluru. Initially focused on grocery deliveries for Zepto and KPN Farm Fresh, the service will soon include food orders for leading quick-service restaurants. Unlike consumer delivery services, Uber Direct allows merchants to use Uber's fleet to fulfill orders efficiently without managing their own logistics. Leveraging its two-wheeler network, Uber aims to enhance last-mile delivery, provide a scalable solution for Indian businesses, and improve operational efficiency for groceries, food, and retail sectors.

Uber has launched Uber Direct in India, entering the business-to-business (B2B) logistics space. The service is integrated with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and started in Bengaluru, focusing on grocery deliveries for partners Zepto and KPN Farm Fresh. Over the next few weeks, Uber plans to expand the service to deliver food orders for popular quick-service restaurant brands including KFC, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Rebel Foods.

Uber Direct is designed only for businesses. Sellers on ONDC can now route orders from their apps or websites directly through Uber's network. Customers interact with Uber only when their orders are delivered. This model helps merchants manage deliveries efficiently without maintaining their own logistics teams.

The company is leveraging its existing two-wheeler fleet, which already supports ride-hailing and consumer delivery services, to scale Uber Direct across cities. According to Uber India's president, the service acts as a "plug-and-play" logistics solution, allowing businesses to meet demand quickly and cost-effectively.

Beyond logistics, Uber is also expanding its ONDC offerings. Users in Bengaluru can now book metro tickets through the Uber app, joining previous launches in Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai. This integration adds convenience for urban commuters while linking transport and delivery solutions on a single platform.
