Synopsis

NHAI, in partnership with ROADIS, has launched a cycle-donation initiative to support school-going girls across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat. Nearly 100 bicycles were distributed to 80 students from ten schools located along ROADIS-operated highway corridors, helping girls with long or unsafe commutes travel more independently and continue their education. The main event was held in Varanasi, attended by senior NHAI officials who emphasised the role of safe mobility in community development. ROADIS said the drive aligns with its commitment to improving lives around its project areas. The initiative is part of the Shikshaantra Plus programme, which supports learning, digital access and school infrastructure in multiple states.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in partnership with ROADIS, has undertaken a cycle donation initiative aimed at improving mobility for school-going girls across three states. Nearly 100 bicycles were distributed to 80 deserving students from ten schools situated along ROADIS-operated highway stretches in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The drive, conducted through the firm’s ongoing Shikshaantra Plus programme, intends to ensure that young girls facing long or unsafe commutes to school can travel more independently and continue their education without interruption.

The primary felicitation event was held earlier this week in Varanasi, where several senior NHAI officials were present. Those in attendance included Vishal Chauhan, IAS, Member Administration; S. Rajalingam, Commissioner of the Varanasi Division; N. L. Yeotkar, Regional Officer for Bihar; Pankaj Kumar Maurya, Regional Officer for Uttar Pradesh (East); R. K. Verma, Project Director of PIU Sasaram; and Arun Kumar, Project Director of PIU Varanasi. Their participation signalled institutional support for community-focused interventions along national highway corridors.

In his remarks, Vishal Chauhan noted that ensuring safe and equitable mobility for young girls formed an integral part of NHAI’s broader community development approach. He observed that the bicycle distribution drive by Varanasi Aurangabad NH-2 Tollway Pvt. Ltd. directly contributed to reducing mobility barriers and enabling girls to pursue their education with greater confidence. He further emphasised the importance of strengthening partnerships to create long-term, meaningful benefits for communities living alongside highway projects.

ROADIS’ CEO-Asia, Alvaro Santos, explained that the company’s vision extended beyond infrastructure development to improving the lives of people around their operational areas. He said the cycle donation drive aligned with the firm’s commitment to supporting educational aspirations and promoting safer mobility for young girls. Santos also expressed appreciation to NHAI for its guidance and continued collaboration in implementing socially impactful initiatives.

The donation drive forms part of ROADIS’ Shikshaantra Plus programme, which operates across ten schools in India. The programme focuses on improving learning environments, enhancing digital literacy, upgrading educational infrastructure, and promoting equal opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds.
