To strengthen implementation, the corporation has deployed ten dedicated squads; eight at ward level and two at the divisional level. These squads have been tasked specifically with monitoring and enforcing plastic restrictions. Officials reiterated that these measures are intended to curb the environmental and health hazards associated with single-use plastic rather than generate revenue through penalties. The administration continues to urge citizens to adopt cloth or paper bags and encourages traders to avoid stocking plastic bags or distributing them to customers. Public outreach remains an integral part of the corporation's efforts, reinforcing the need for responsible alternatives to reduce plastic waste in the city.
The corporation has reiterated that the intention behind these actions is not revenue generation but sustained behavioural change among citizens and businesses. It has urged the public to adopt cloth or paper bags and avoid stocking or distributing plastic bags and other single-use items. Officials emphasised that reducing plastic waste is essential to safeguarding the environment and public health, and that voluntary compliance remains the most effective route to long-term success. The municipal administration will continue its enforcement efforts alongside ongoing community outreach.
