Synopsis

Ranchi's administration has cleared a INR 48.72 crore plan to rebuild the ITI Bus Stand, the Government Bus Depot and the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal. Each terminal has been given a separate budget, and the redesign focuses on safer structures, better passenger facilities, organised parking and improved handling capacity. The older depot, which dates back to the 1960s, will be completely reconstructed, while the other two will be upgraded with new buildings and expanded services. The work is aimed at bringing these terminals closer to national standards.

Ranchi's government has approved a INR 48.72 crore plan to upgrade three important bus terminals in the city the ITI Bus Stand on Ratu Road, the Government Bus Depot on Station Road and the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgarha. The decision followed directions from Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who asked the officials to improve these public transport points so they can meet national-level standards.

The ITI Bus Stand has been given INR 24.77 crore. This terminal sits on about three acres of land and will get a new building with a 2,330 sq m ground floor and an 880 sq m first floor. The plan includes 13 bus bays, parking for 35 standby buses, a driver's canteen, a maintenance area, security rooms and an air-conditioned waiting zone for passengers. There will also be parking space for cars and e-rickshaws. After redevelopment, the terminal is expected to handle around 416 buses a day.

The Government Bus Depot has been allotted INR 20.19 crore. This depot was originally built between the early 1960s and 1970s and has reached a point where repairs alone are not enough. The new layout includes eight bus bays, a maintenance area, waiting halls, a cafeteria, food kiosks, a transport-management office and dormitories for staff. Once complete, the depot is expected to support the movement of nearly 512 buses every day.

For the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal, INR 3.76 crore has been set aside. This terminal covers more than 11 acres and will undergo a refurbishment rather than a full rebuild. The plan includes 31 bus bays, parking for 89 buses and 70 cars, improved sheds, a 50-bed dormitory, restrooms and bathing facilities, a guesthouse, boundary walls, waterproofing work and upgraded lighting. The design also includes features aimed at improving safety for women passengers.

Officials have been told to speed up the tendering process so work can begin soon. The entire project will be monitored by JUIDCO. The aim is to ensure that all three terminals offer cleaner, safer and more organised facilities for daily commuters.
