Synopsis

The Karnataka government has decided to create a monitoring group to oversee the progress of Bengaluru's Namma Metro Blue Line, which will run from Central Silk Board to KR Pura along the Outer Ring Road. The committee will include government officials and industry representatives and will track construction, review delays, and coordinate road-infrastructure upgrades. The 19 km stretch with 13 stations is planned for completion by December 2026, with extensions toward the airport planned for 2027. The state has set aside INR 450 crore for related road work along the corridor.

The Karnataka government has moved forward with plans to set up a small monitoring group to supervise the development of Bengaluru's Namma Metro Blue Line. This group will consist of government officials and members of industry bodies, ensuring both sides regularly track construction timelines and coordinate decisions. The Blue Line covers the busy Outer Ring Road corridor from Central Silk Board to KR Pura, an area that serves more than 500 companies and a workforce estimated at over 1.3 million people.

The project covers a 19 km stretch with 13 stations, and work began around five years ago. The government has maintained its target to open this section by December 2026. Two further extensions, which will link the Blue Line to the airport route designed by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), are planned for opening in 2027. These additions are expected to strengthen last-mile connectivity for employees and reduce pressure on road networks.

During a recent review meeting organised by the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), representatives from the tech corridor discussed existing traffic concerns and the need for the metro to be completed on time. ORRCA members and government officials pointed out that the new monitoring group will review both metro construction milestones and road-infrastructure improvements along the ORR. The intention is to avoid delays that previously affected metro projects in the city and to maintain steady coordination across departments.

The state government has allocated INR 450 crore to upgrade roads along the ORR stretch. These improvements are planned to support smoother traffic flow and complement the metro network when it becomes operational. Officials have committed to holding regular progress reviews with all stakeholders to ensure that both metro work and supporting infrastructure remain on track.
