Odisha Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi announced development projects worth over INR 3,700 crore for Keonjhar district during his recent visit to the region, where he laid the foundation stone for the peripheral development of the Maa Tarini temple complex in Ghatagaon. He stated that the district will receive a series of road, civic, industrial and social-infrastructure upgrades under the new investment plan.
A major portion of the allocation will go towards road connectivity. A four-lane ring road is planned around Barbil at a cost of INR 2,300 crore, while a bypass road for Keonjhar town will require INR 428 crore. Another four-lane road is proposed near the district headquarters hospital to improve local movement and reduce congestion.
The state has also cleared projects aimed at strengthening Keonjhar's industrial and digital ecosystem. These include a tech park worth INR 168 crore, a data centre costing INR 150 crore, and a textile park at Balabhadrapur with an outlay of INR 150 crore. A data-recovery centre will be developed at Dharanidhar University at a cost of INR 187 crore.
Along with this, the government approved redevelopment of the Raisuan airstrip for INR 103 crore and an upgrade of the Keonjhar stadium for INR 180 crore. A regional plant-resource centre is planned at Sanaghagara with an allocation of INR 50 crore.
The redevelopment of the Maa Tarini temple complex, valued at INR 313 crore, is planned to be completed within a year. The work includes a 216-bed pilgrim residence, pilgrim centre, food plaza, market complex, watchtower, coconut warehouse, and a dining hall with capacity for 500 people. Dedicated rest facilities for drivers will also be part of the project.
Majhi said that around INR 35,000 crore from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF), the Odisha Mineral Bearing Areas Development Corporation (OMBADC), and central and state allocations is available to support long-term development in Keonjhar. He also mentioned that preparatory work for setting up a mega steel plant in the district is in progress, given Keonjhar's mineral-rich profile.
