Synopsis

Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 experienced a technical glitch, resulting in service delays and passenger inconvenience across western suburbs. Some trains were stalled at stations, while others ran at slower speeds, impacting peak-hour travel. The operator, MMMOCL, confirmed the technical issue and worked to restore services quickly. Normally, these lines operate hundreds of services daily with short intervals during peak hours. The disruption highlighted the importance of consistent maintenance and monitoring to ensure smooth metro operations and reduce commuter stress.

Services on Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 were disrupted due to a technical glitch, leading to delays and inconvenience for passengers across the western suburbs. Trains were reportedly delayed at stations such as Andheri West, while some running services were moving at a slower pace. Commuters expressed frustration as peak-hour travel was affected, creating crowding on platforms.

The operator, Maha Mumbai Metro Operations Corporation Limited (MMMOCL), confirmed that both lines experienced a temporary technical issue and assured passengers that teams were actively working to restore normal operations. They urged commuters to follow updates on official channels for real-time information.

Under normal conditions, MMMOCL operates 317 services on these lines on weekdays, with peak-hour headways of about 5.5 minutes and non-peak headways of around 9.3 minutes. Weekend operations include 256 services daily, with peak and non-peak intervals of 8.06 minutes and 10.25 minutes respectively. These services connect Dahisar East, Andheri, and Gundavali, and have been operational since April 2, 2022.

Past incidents on these lines have occasionally caused minor delays, but this disruption was longer than usual, affecting thousands of daily commuters. The glitch reportedly involved signaling and operational systems, which are critical for safe and timely metro operations.

MMMOCL's prompt response included station staff assisting stranded passengers and monitoring crowd management. Officials highlighted that such issues, although rare, are part of technical operations and emphasized ongoing maintenance and monitoring to prevent future occurrences.
