Haryana has strengthened its clean energy plans with new directions from Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini, who instructed officials to equip all government buildings with rooftop solar systems. He reviewed progress under the PM Suryaghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and pressed departments to speed up installations. The state has completed 42,486 rooftop solar systems so far and is targeting 2,22,000 installations by March 2027. Authorities have also proposed a new scheme, the Saur Urja Protsahan Yojana, to encourage wider adoption. Haryana is also preparing for major thermal and renewable capacity additions to secure long-term power availability.
Haryana has increased its focus on expanding clean energy infrastructure as Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini instructed officials to equip all government buildings, including schools, colleges, hospitals and administrative offices, with rooftop solar systems. The direction was issued during a high-level review meeting held this past week at the civil secretariat, where he assessed the progress of ongoing power sector commitments.
Saini examined the implementation of the PM Suryaghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and asked departments to step up rooftop solar installations across households. Officials presented month-wise data, and he stressed the need for close monitoring and timely completion of targets. He also asked agencies to identify suitable locations across the state for developing new solar parks to support Haryana's broader renewable energy plans.
Public safety measures were also discussed, and the Chief Minister instructed immediate removal of old and non-functional electricity poles from major state roads and highways. This step is aimed at improving both safety and the appearance of key routes.
Shyamal Misra, Chairman of the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL), reported that the state had completed 42,486 rooftop solar installations as of November 20, 2025. Haryana has set a target of installing 2,22,000 systems by March 31, 2027. In addition, power distribution companies have drafted a new scheme, the Saur Urja Protsahan Yojana, which is currently awaiting state approval. Once cleared, the initiative is expected to further increase rooftop solar adoption.
Saini reiterated that all power sector targets must be achieved within planned timelines to ensure uninterrupted electricity to every household. Haryana aims to reach 24,000 MW of power availability over the next seven years, supported by both renewable and thermal additions. Officials informed him that work on the 1x800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal unit in Yamunanagar will begin soon with support from Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), adding to the state's long-term capacity expansion.
